A strong headwind all day and lashing rain did not dampen the spirits or determination of the Pigs on Bikes. Spattered with mud and grit they were welcomed into George Square, Glasgow late afternoon. It was a long day for them. Congratulations to them all and a big thank you.

13 cyclists set off from Edinburgh just before 0930 hrs with a strong wind in their faces. The group knew in advance the prevailing wind would not be in their favour but the 60 mile route was predominantly on the flat and would have been just too easy otherwise. The group cycled through some beautiful countryside and exchanged greetings with several people cruising the canal on narrow boats. A short stop in Linlithgow to take on fuel and then onward to Falkirk where they would stop for lunch. For much of the first half the sun was doing its best to break through the clouds but as they approached Falkirk the rain began to make its presence known. The wind increased in strength as well.

After lunch the group set off from the Falkirk Wheel and then the heavens opened. In spite of the heavy rain and strong winds the group pressed on. The mud and grit thrown up from the tow-path started to affect the moving parts of their bikes but the group pressed on regardless.

A warm welcome awaited outside Glasgow City Chambers with the front runners arriving in under 5 hours of ‘saddle time’ with the remainder completing the ride in just over 5 hours in the saddle. The weather did not dampen the group’s enthusiasm and everyone had a terrific day (in spite of a couple of falls resulting in bumps and bruises) and are glad to have been able to assist the Moira Fund. At the conclusion of the event the group were presented with a pennant and individual lapel badges by Bailie Catherine McMaster of Glasgow City Council.
