Walk for Scotland

The Ennstone Thistle “Flower of Scotland” team completed the Walk for Scotland for The Moira Fund on Sunday the 6th June.  The fifteen hardy souls braved typical Scottish June weather and completed the 6 and 12 mile courses, starting at Holyrood Park adjacent to the Queens official Scottish residence, the walkers travelled up Queens Drive as far as Brunstane Mill before returning via Portobello Golf Course and Duddingston. Everyone made very good time with Gavin setting the pace and Steven (I’ve got it taped) Melville bringing up the rear!   Steven’s boots, which had been ‘cupboard bound’ for a number of years, disintegrated after around 5 miles and after visiting the Disco bus to get them taped up, managed to complete the full 12 miles – so congratulations to all concerned. There were a good few aches and pains on Monday but obviously they weren’t too bad as the young ladies concerned refused the offer of a massage from Willie. The walk took place with a great feeling of warmth and togetherness with people ‘doing their bit’ for their particular charity. It was probably appropriate that the walkers passed Duddingston Church where the Reverend John Thompson 1778-1840 was the man responsible for the old Scottish saying “We’re all Jock Thompson’s Bairns”.
