The Moira Fund, June 2012, an Update and Forthcoming Events.
It is that time of year when activities increase here as we become immersed in the organisation of our two biggest fundraisers of the year, our Moira Fund Autumn Balls in Stafford and in Glasgow: Stafford on Saturday, 29th September at Staffordshire County Showground; Glasgow on Saturday, 27th October at Glasgow University Union.
We already have promises of a fantastic Thomson Holiday, a signed guitar, a 2-night stay at beautiful Lily Cottage in Symington, S Ayrshire, which sleeps 4, golf, jewellery, etc.. The bands are booked, the tickets are printed. There will be an online booking facility for the Glasgow Ball on our website very soon or you can ring us on 07885 048 510.
This is also the time when we look back and think about what we have achieved since the Balls of last year. We are very grateful to those who have organised, taken part in and sponsored events for us over the winter months:
The Jedburgh 10k; A New Year Raffle; The Churnet Valley Male Voice Choir; St Andrew’s Skydive; A VIP Night at Francesco’s of Stafford; The Stafford Half-Marathon.
And, on Jubilee Weekend, as rowers led the pageant down the Thames, we had 73 year-old great grandfather, Terry, rowing the Channel distance on his Concept 2 rowing machine in Weston Village Hall [it was pouring down on the Green!], setting a new record and raising an amazing amount of money [£1000+ and still counting].
We did a Moira Fund Presentation in January which was well received. We have contributed to consultations with the Ministry of Justice on behalf of The Moira Fund and also through our membership of the Victims’ Alliance. This has involved meetings in London and we hope will result in changes for the better.
Of course, most important of all, we have continued to give help to those whose lives have been shattered by the loss of a loved one through murder. Our requests for assistance have increased. So far we have been able to keep up with the flow and we certainly could not do this without you, without all of our wonderful supporters. We are hugely grateful.
We thank you all for helping us to help others in Moira’s name and we hope to see you soon.
Kind regards,
Beatrice Jones
President
